Village Savings & Loan Association

SHED's take on Savings and Loans in Uganda

VILLAGE SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATION

Poverty and low household incomes are the leading factors that increase vulnerability of youth and OVC households. There is still a very large gap between the needs of the poor for financial services and the ability for banks and Micro finance institutions(MFIs) to provide these services. Moreover the gap cannot be filled by these types of institutions. In addition to the gap in service delivery, there is also a gap between the products that MFIs can offer and those that are needed by the poor.

Establishing Best Practices

Shed is intending to introduce the concept of village savings and Loan associations (VSLA) to the youth and Orphans and Vulnerable children(OVC) households to enable them save and access affordable finance to start and expand their businesses.
