Shed Coffee Academy
Roasting
Our Coffee Academy offers coffee aggregators a chance to learn how to roast their own coffee. With a 6kg roaster on-site, we have the unique capability of being able to train you from freshly harvested beans to hot cup of coffee.
Grinding
We offer coffee grinding services and training for both private and commercial purposes. If you have coffee beans, we have a grinder onsite that you can get training to use to gain an understanding of how grind sizes effect coffee quality and flavors!
Brewing
We offer classes and mentorship programming with some of the most knowledgeable coffee brewers in the nation, come learn about how to brew the best coffee utilizing different techniques, tools, and for different purposes!
Cupping
We have a 12-litre 2-group espresso machine on-site to train individuals on the usage of semi-automatic espresso machines, which prepares trainees for the usage of any espresso machine in any market.
Cyclic Model
In addition to the aforementioned skills, the coffee produced in our academy is sold with all profits being used towards the improvement of our facilities and providing opportunities to even more youth! We want to be clear, our products are not training grade. Every bag of coffee we produce undergoes strict quality assessment by some of the most knowledgeable minds in Uganda’s coffee industry.
In addition to our In-House Coffee Academy, the WeWork project with Enabel is working in the field. We are currently working with youth involved in the coffee value addition chain across the Kampala Metropolitan and Busoga region (Kamuli district and Jinja City), to increase their profits to above the nationally recognized minimum payment threshold, or 235,000 shillings of income per month.
This academy is a part of a project funded by Enabel, the Belgian Agency for International Cooperation: Green and Decent Jobs for Youth.
Business Incubation
Here at Shed, we also offer business incubation for small youth business owners! One of our participant-owned companies we are most excited about is Awake Coffee! A ready-to-drink coffee product that is designed to target the lower-middle market with an affordable coffee alternative to artificial energy drinks! With each bottle containing the same high quality coffee that we sell, Awake Coffee is only the best!
